Tips on how to Safeguard Yourself and Your Property

House and Household Contents
  • Let your insurer or broker know if you have recently installed a new security system at home, as this could also lower your premium.
  • Check what you are covered for:  Read the policy carefully and scrutinise ‘terms, conditions and exclusions’.  For instance, Household Contents cover refers to only those items that stay inside your home and does not extend to items that can be taken outside such as jewellery worn by you or cell phones.
  • Not all items are covered under House Hold Contents.  Luxury items such as laptops, jewellery worn by you, watches, cell phones, Sony Play Stations, digital cameras, sunglasses, etc. which you often carry with you, should be listed as Specified Items in your policy under the All Risks Section or Personal Computers section. If not, these are not covered when stolen/lost or damaged.
  • You can also consider removing certain specified items from your insurance policy, such as laptops and cell phones. The key here is to remove only items that you have the financial capacity to easily replace.
